"We eliminate all the extraneous issues," said co-founder Renee Fisher.
"Dislike of hanging out at bars, being awkward about dancing, not knowing
when the right time is to ask for a phone number, being hesitant to
talk to someone for fear of getting stuck with them all evening, dislike
of schmoozing, fear of getting left out with no one to talk to, the
perils of online dating, etc., that prevent people from connecting in
a really meaningful way."
"It beats hanging out in a bar and waiting for someone to come pick
you up," said Laura Taylor, a naturalist with the Charles County schools,
who participated Sunday night at Clyde's in Tysons Corner. "At a bar
you never know what you're going to get."
Brief Encounters boasts on average a 70 percent match rate. Fisher called
yesterday to say she'd had a 96 percent match rate the previous night--of
the 23 people who attended, 22 had at least one match."
